Aqara’s smart valve controller T1 is now available, bringing interoperable, Matter-compatible valve controller options to the smart home for the first time. The $69.99 T1 connects to your water shut-off valve so you can operate it remotely or automatically shut it off when a leak is detected.
The Aqara hub allows this T1 to integrate with any major smart home platform, unlike some pricier options from the likes of Moen, Kohler, and Belkin. Currently, only Samsung and Home Assistant support such smart valve controllers, but that will change as other companies expand their Matter device support.
The T1 attaches to the lever or butterfly handle of most household valves. Aqara says it’s “suitable for DIY as it doesn’t require major modifications to existing pipes” and is compatible with half-inch, three-quarter-inch and one-inch pipes.
Aqara says the T1 can run on four AA batteries for up to two years. For automation, the company also makes an inexpensive leak sensor, or you can use other sensors that work with your preferred smart home platform once support is added.
