Tinder is no longer just a platform for solo dates. The company has announced a new “double date” feature that will be launched in the U.S., which will invite you to find a friend and match another pair.
The feature lives in the new Double Date icon in the upper right corner of the app, where you can invite up to three friends to create pairs with. You can all scroll through the feed of paired profiles that appear side by side with photos and descriptions. When one of the two pairs slides correctly, a match is created. Tinder will then open a group chat with all four users.
As the dating app industry continues to experience a downturn, the update will help Tinder gain an edge over its competitors. It will also allow Tinder to compete directly with platforms built for double dates, such as Double and Fourplay.
Tinder’s head of product marketing told Cleo Long edge The platform has been testing in Europe for “months” and added that it aims to relieve dating stress, especially among younger users. “It’s a socially-first experience that really aims to help relieve some of the stress of some of the Gen Z experiences we know about, which makes it more social, more fun, and brings your friends to help strengthen the comfort of the work.”
Tinder plans to launch a dual date worldwide in July.
